Sean Kingston, famous for his catchy hit “Beautiful Girls,” found himself in handcuffs on Thursday evening.
Kingston was arrested in Fort Irwin, California, a small desert town adjacent to the U.S. Army National Training Center.
If you’re wondering where Fort Irwin is, it’s about 180 miles southwest of Las Vegas – not exactly the spot you’d expect for a celebrity bust.
Meanwhile, back in sunny Florida, Kingston’s mom, Janice Turner, was also taken into custody during a SWAT raid at their Southwest Ranches mansion.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office, along with Davie SWAT officers, decided to make it a family affair and serve a search warrant at the luxurious property, located about 30 miles northwest of Miami.
The Charges: A Family Affair
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Sean Kingston, 34, is facing a warrant alleging numerous instances of fraud and theft.
He was arrested without incident and is likely to be booked into jail in San Bernardino County, California.
As for Janice Turner, the 61-year-old matriarch was taken into custody on suspicion of fraud and theft.
Kingston Speaks Out
Before his own arrest, Kingston took to Instagram to address his mother’s situation.
In his story, he said, “People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother!.. my lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
Legal Jargon and Celebrity Drama
Bob Rosenblatt, an attorney representing Kingston, confirmed that the singer will waive extradition.
“We were in the process of having him return to Florida after his show,” Rosenblatt said. “We want him back ASAP so we can show this is merely a civil case and not criminal. We look forward to challenging this case in court.”
Authorities, however, didn’t give any heads-up that Sean Kingston might be taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office mentioned that arrest and search warrants were served following an investigation that began in nearby Dania Beach, but details were scarce.
More Than Just a One-Hit Wonder
Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, is more than just the voice behind “Beautiful Girls.”
He’s collaborated with big names like Justin Bieber, Tory Lanez, and Nicki Minaj. He’s even toured with Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson.
What Happens Next?
Now, all eyes are on the legal drama that’s set to unfold.
With Sean Kingston’s lawyers claiming it’s a civil matter, and authorities not spilling all the beans just yet, the courtroom showdown promises to be as riveting as one of his concerts.
