APD Officer Koby Minor arrested for killing Lyft driver Reginald T. Folks (Atlanta Police Department)

In a tragic incident early Wednesday morning, a Lyft driver, Reginald T. Folks, 35, was fatally shot by Koby Minor while on duty in Union City.

The Union City police are actively investigating the murder, which occurred on South Fulton Parkway near Stonewall Tell Road.

According to investigators, the shooting took place during the Lyft ride to Minor’s residence.

Unfortunately, Folks succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Koby Minor, who was still present at the scene when authorities arrived, was promptly arrested.

He is currently held in the Fulton County Jail facing charges of murder and aggravated assault.

What adds a startling twist to this tragic event is that Koby Minor was confirmed as an officer with the Atlanta Police Department (APD).

Following his arrest, Minor resigned from his position, effective immediately.

He had been with the APD since July 2018 but was on unpaid leave since a prior arrest in Milton back in December 2023.

Notably, Koby Minor has not had access to his service weapon since the December arrest.

Further details from Fulton County Jail records reveal that Minor was previously arrested on Christmas Day for drug-related charges, including possession of a controlled substance and drugs not in their original container.

In response to this devastating incident, Lyft released a statement expressing condolences to Mr. Folks’ family and outlining their actions.

A Lyft spokesperson shared:

Our hearts are with Mr. Folks’ loved ones as they confront this unspeakable tragedy, and we have reached out to offer our support during this difficult time.

We stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation and have permanently banned the rider’s account from the Lyft community.
