A day after celebrating her 55th birthday, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul is wasting no time adding another milestone to her legacy. Mary J. Blige has officially announced her first-ever Las Vegas residency, and yes, this one is personal.
The announcement was revealed on “TODAY” on January 12, where Mary J. shared the exciting news with Craig Melvin and fans watching at home.
Mary J. Blige Announces First Las Vegas Residency
Titled “Mary J. Blige: My Life, My Story – The Las Vegas Residency,” the limited run kicks off May 1 at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
The residency includes ten total performances, with five shows in May and five more in July.
“That’s major for me,” Mary J. said during the live interview. “Vegas is the big time.”
And if you know Mary, you already know she is not just showing up to sing and leave.
This residency is designed to feel like an experience.
A Theatrical, Storytelling Experience
According to Mary J., the Vegas shows will go beyond a traditional concert.
Fans can expect a theatrical production where the music tells her story.
“It’s going to be done more theatrical,” she explained. “It’s still going to have the music, it’s still going to be fun, but it’s a story so there’s going to be actors and actresses.”
She also teased that longtime fans are in for a treat, sharing that there are several songs she has never performed live before.
In this production, actors will help narrate the journey, allowing the music to unfold in a more cinematic and emotional way.
In other words, bring tissues and comfortable shoes.
