If you enjoy a good Lifetime movie moment like I do, the network just gave us plenty to look forward to.
During its Upfront presentation on Wednesday, Lifetime revealed a slate of new projects that includes major talent deals, emotional love stories, and something the network has never done before, a microdrama.
And two familiar powerhouse names are stepping into the spotlight behind the scenes.
Queen Latifah And Taraji P. Henson Join Lifetime As Creative Partners
Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson are officially joining Lifetime’s growing list of creative partners.
Queen Latifah will executive produce three new Lifetime original movies through her production company, Flavor Unit Entertainment, alongside her longtime producing partner Shakim Compere.
Taraji P. Henson is also developing two new Lifetime films through her production company, TPH Entertainment, in partnership with Fox Entertainment Studios.
Production will be overseen by her head of development, Jamila Jordan-Theus.
Details about the films haven’t been revealed yet, but Lifetime says both women share the network’s passion for telling powerful stories centered on women.
Lifetime Is Entering The Microdrama Space
Lifetime is also trying something new.
The network announced its first vertical microdrama called “Tides of Temptation.”
The project connects directly to the upcoming movie “Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise with You.”
Set on the Caribbean island of Nevis, the story follows Constance, a young woman trapped in a dangerous situation with her controlling brother and abusive boyfriend.
When a rising athlete named Jamal enters her life, their connection sparks a romance that could change everything.
The project stars creator and musician Q Stenline (SwagBoyQ), Troy Brookins, Mea Wilkerson, and David John Craig.
Taye Diggs is also serving as an executive producer.
New “Love Of A Lifetime” Movies Are On The Way
Lifetime also revealed three new films under its popular “Love of a Lifetime” banner.
“Love, Again” stars Valerie Bertinelli, Henry Czerny, and Eric McCormack in an emotional story about a couple whose life changes when the husband is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
As his memory fades, his wife must navigate love, loss, and the possibility of a new connection.
“When I Said I Do” follows a widowed K-9 search-and-rescue handler who has rebuilt her life after losing her husband.
When she meets another rescue specialist dealing with his own painful past, the two must decide if they’re ready to open their hearts again.
“Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise with You” stars and is executive produced by Taye Diggs and Heather Hemmens.
The story follows a retiring NFL star who retreats to Nevis and unexpectedly finds romance while competing with a woman for the same dream property.
Cynthia Bailey also stars.
A Powerful True Story Is Also Heading To Lifetime
Lifetime also announced “Angel in the Rubble,” a film based on the bestselling book about Genelle Guzman, the last survivor rescued from Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks.
The story follows Guzman, a New York City transit worker who survived 27 hours trapped beneath the rubble after the collapse of the World Trade Center.
During that time, she prayed for another chance at life.
When a man named Paul found her in the debris and stayed with her until rescuers arrived, she later searched for him to say thank you.
No one could confirm he was ever there.
Genelle believes the man may have been an angel sent to save her.
The film is executive produced by Robin Roberts and will star Sherri Shepherd.
Between new partnerships with Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson, emotional romance stories, and a bold step into microdrama storytelling, Lifetime clearly has some big plans ahead.
And if you’re like me and enjoy a good story that makes you feel something, this upcoming slate is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
