Paramount+ just announced a new drama that already has my attention. The streamer has officially greenlit “Laird,” an upcoming original series starring Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Kenneth Branagh, who will also serve as an executive producer.
Set in the modern Scottish Highlands, “Laird” is an epic family saga filled with family drama, buried secrets, romance, and a battle over legacy.
What Is “Laird” About?
Kenneth Branagh stars as the Laird of Castle Drummoch, a proud Scottish landowner determined to protect his family’s ancestral home.
Standing in his way is a mysterious American billionaire determined to buy up the Scottish glens, setting the stage for a powerful fight over land, legacy, and who gets to control the future.
If you enjoy character-driven dramas with high stakes and plenty of family conflict, “Laird” sounds like one to watch.
An Award-Winning Team Is Behind The Series
The series was created by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Georgia Lee.
Award-winning filmmaker Joe Wright, whose credits include Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Darkest Hour, and Cyrano, is attached to direct the pilot.
Behind the scenes, Branagh executive produces alongside David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, Joe Wright, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Charles Finch, and Keith Cox.
“Laird” is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios.
Paramount+ Continues To Expand Its Drama Slate
“Laird” joins a growing lineup of prestige dramas at Paramount+.
The announcement follows recent greenlights for “Fear Not” starring Anne Hathaway, “9/12” starring Jeremy Strong, and “Discretion” starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning.
It also comes on the heels of renewals for hit series like “Dutton Ranch“ and “The Madison.”
When Will “Laird” Premiere?
Paramount+ has confirmed that “Laird” will premiere exclusively on the streaming service worldwide.
A release date has not been announced yet, but with Kenneth Branagh leading the cast and an award-winning creative team behind the series, this is definitely one to keep on your radar.
