It’s with a heavy heart that I report Dexter King, the youngest son of Civil Rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., has died at the age of 62.

Dexter transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, January 22, 2024, just eight days before his 63rd birthday, after a “valiant battle with prostate cancer.”

Leah Weber King, Dexter’s wife of 11 years said:

He transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with me in Malibu.

He gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end.

As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might.

Dexter King’s sister, Rev. Dr. Bernice King, CEO of The King Center, stated, “Words cannot express the heartbreak I feel from losing another sibling.”

Yolanda King died in May 2007 from complications related to a chronic heart condition.

I’m praying for strength to get through this very difficult time,” Bernice said.

Martin Luther King, III added, “The sudden shock is devastating. It is hard to have the right words at a moment like this. We ask for your prayers at this time for the entire King family.

Please keep the King family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
