James Barker, executive producer of “Love Island USA,” has passed away at age 40 after suffering an unexpected medical emergency in Fiji, where Season 8 is currently filming.
The heartbreaking loss has been felt across the production and among the many people who worked alongside him throughout his television career.

ITV America and Peacock confirmed the news on Monday, June 15, and shared a heartfelt statement honoring Barker’s impact on the show and the people who worked alongside him.
“James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock,” the statement read.
“He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”
Before joining “Love Island USA,” Barker built a successful career in unscripted television, contributing to series including “Pawn Stars,” “Counting Cars,” “Forged in Fire,” and “Queer Eye.”
He later became an integral part of both the “Love Island USA” and “Love Island Games” franchises.
Just days before his passing, Barker celebrated the launch of Season 8 on Instagram.
“We come to Fiji for magic. We come to @loveislandusa to laugh, to cry, to care,” he wrote. “Hope you’re all enjoying the new season brought to you by a huge squad of brilliant people.”
While viewers may not have known James Barker by name, his work helped shape one of Peacock’s most popular reality series and left a lasting impact on those who worked with him.
