If you’re wondering whether “The Westies” is worth watching, my answer is an easy yes.
After watching the first two episodes, I can already tell this is one of those crime dramas I’m going to stick with until the very end.
My The Westies review is simple: the series grabs your attention almost immediately and never lets go.
Set in Hell’s Kitchen during the early 1980s, the MGM+ original follows the infamous Irish-American gang known as the Westies as they’re forced into an uneasy alliance with the Italian Mafia.
The series stars J.K. Simmons, Titus Welliver, Sarah Bolger, Jessica Frances Dukes, Tom Brittney, and Hamish Allan-Headley.
Everyone brings something to the table, making the power struggles feel authentic and the tension impossible to ignore.
Why ‘The Westies’ Is Worth Watching
What impressed me most wasn’t just the cast. It was the pacing.
Within the first five minutes, the series had my full attention.
Instead of spending an episode setting everything up, it throws you straight into the conflict surrounding the construction of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, where millions of dollars in union kickbacks and construction money become the prize everyone wants.
That setup creates constant tension between the Irish gang and the Italian Mafia. Neither side trusts the other, but they’re willing to work together if there’s enough money on the line.
The storytelling is sharp, the performances are strong, and by the time the first episode ended, I was already hitting play on Episode 2.
If you’re a fan of gritty crime dramas packed with organized crime, political corruption, shifting alliances, and plenty of violence, I think you’re going to enjoy this one.
