A 15-year-old was killed and three others, including an officer, were injured in a shooting that occurred after the Moechella music festival in Northwest D.C. on Sunday (June 19).
At a media briefing, Chief Robert Congee III said police units responded around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Mayor Muriel Bowser said:
I just want to echo what the chief said.
We have a child who was killed at an event today that did not have any proper planning for the number of people who were here and with guns involved and with our police managing a crowd onsite somebody used a gun and a child is dead.
And so the chief and I will continue to make sure we have the resources we need on these corridors and all of our corridors but we need some accountability here.

Moechella, hosted by Long Live GoGo founder Justin “Yaddiya” Johnson, is a free go-go band-led Juneteenth celebration full of Black cultural spirit and anti-gentrification passion.
Yaddiya has hosted the event, which blends D.C. slang for friend – “moe” – with the Coachella seminal Southern California music fest, since 2019 without incident.
It is important to note, that the event was held from 4-8 pm and the senseless shooting occurred after the event was over.
Many attendees and fans of Moechella took to social media to speak out in support of the event following the negative coverage related to the shooting.
