I honestly haven’t been this shaken up by a movie since Companion.
Directed by Curry Barker, this supernatural horror film slowly pulls you into its twisted world before completely spiraling into chaos. And trust me when I tell you…this movie goes THERE.

What Is “Obsession” About?
The film follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a socially awkward hopeless romantic who works at a music store and is secretly in love with his co-worker Nikki.
Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, is warm, kind-hearted, and the type of person who naturally draws people in.
But instead of simply telling Nikki how he feels, Bear makes a reckless decision that changes everything.
After buying a creepy 80s novelty toy called the “One Wish Willow,” Bear wishes for Nikki to love him more than anyone else in the world.
Yeah…you already know that’s not about to end well.
Because once Nikki locks in on Bear, things quickly become way more intense than he bargained for.
The Slow Burn Completely Pays Off
One thing I genuinely appreciated about “Obsession” is that Curry Barker doesn’t rush the insanity.
The film takes its time building tension and allowing the story to simmer before everything completely spirals out of control.
That slow-burn approach makes the horror hit even harder once the chaos finally explodes.
And whew…it absolutely explodes.
The violence escalates. The emotional tension intensifies. And the film transforms into something dark, funny, disturbing, uncomfortable, and honestly difficult to look away from.
But underneath all the horror and madness is a deeper layer that really stood out to me.
At its core, “Obsession” explores what happens when someone involuntarily loses control over their thoughts, emotions, desires, and autonomy.
That underlying theme gives the film far more emotional weight than I expected going in.
Inde Navarrette Completely Shows Off Her Acting Range
Please give Inde Navarrette her things because sis SHOWED OFF in this role.
Her performance is easily one of the strongest parts of the film, and she fully commits emotionally, physically, and psychologically to Nikki’s unraveling.
You can tell she tapped all the way into this character, and it elevated the movie for me in a major way.
Michael Johnston also does a solid job balancing Bear’s awkwardness, vulnerability, desperation, and growing darkness throughout the film.
Is “Obsession” Worth Watching?
Absolutely…especially if you enjoy horror films that slowly build tension before going completely off the rails.
“Obsession” feels unpredictable in the best way because you never fully know how far it’s willing to go until it gets there. And once it does? Whew.
Now, I do have one critique. There’s one particular scene where the special effects are noticeably rough, and it almost takes you out of the movie for a second.
But outside of that, “Obsession” absolutely delivers as a violent, emotionally unsettling, and wildly entertaining horror experience.
The Ending Of “Obsession” Left My Theater Shook
And baby…that ending?
WHEW.
People were literally walking out of the theater saying, “Wooooow.”
I am people.
“Obsession” is dark, chaotic, violent, funny, and one big cautionary tale about getting exactly what you wished for.
If you’re a fan of supernatural horror with psychological themes, shocking twists, and endings that leave you sitting there processing everything you just watched, this is definitely one to add to your list.
