Baton Rouge police have arrested the stepfather of Neveah Allen in the toddler’s disappearance and authorities say they fear the “unimaginable.”
The 2-year-old little girl went missing on Friday (September 24) afternoon in Baton Rouge.
According to her mother, Lanaya Cardwel, Nevaeh’s stepfather, Philip Gardner, put her down for a nap around 1 p.m.
Cardwel’s older children came home from school around 4:15 p.m. and found the door open.
Philip was still asleep and Neveah was missing.
Louisiana State Police issued a Level II Endangered Missing Child Advisory and the FBI joined in on the search for the missing toddler.
By Saturday night, the stepfather, Philip Gardner had been arrested and charged with unlawful disposal of remains and obstruction of justice.
He is currently booked in East Baton Rouge Prison.
Louisiana State Police have canceled the Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory for two-year-old Neveah Allen.
They are now focused on recovering her remains.
Baton Rouge Police Department Sgt. L’Jean McKneely Jr. said:
Evidence and interviews points to the unimaginable, the baby may be dead.
We’re currently working with law enforcement partners and search crews to locate the child’s body.
Neveah’s mother is in total disbelief.
There’s no way, where’s the proof, I need proof. There’s no way there’s no way she didn’t deserve this.
This is completely heartbreaking and I am praying for this family with my whole heart.
