Exciting news for fans of “A Different World“! Netflix is in the early stages of developing a sequel series that will follow the adventures of Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter at Hillman College.

This new single-camera, half-hour comedy comes from writer and executive producer Felicia Pride, known for her work on “Bel-Air” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

She will be joined by executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood.

Debbie Allen, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood, who all contributed to the original series, are back to bring this new chapter to life.

A Different World,” a beloved spin-off of “The Cosby Show,” originally ran for six seasons on NBC and followed Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and her classmates at Hillman College, a fictional historically Black college.

After Bonet’s departure, the show centered on Jasmine Guy‘s Whitley Gilbert and Kadeem Hardison‘s Dwayne Wayne, whose love story became a central theme.

The new series will focus on Dwayne and Whitley’s youngest daughter, now a student at Hillman.

While official casting has not begun, there have been positive discussions with original cast members about potential involvement.

The idea for a sequel has been in development for years, with various delays including the legal issues surrounding Bill Cosby.

The cast recently reunited on “Today” and “The View” to celebrate the show’s legacy and even embarked on a 10-city tour to encourage enrollment at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Felicia Pride, before pitching the pilot to Netflix, worked as a supervising producer on Peacock’s hit series “Bel-Air” and was a writer and producer on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

She’s also developing other projects for Netflix and Amazon, showcasing her versatile talent in the industry.

This sequel follows a similar path to “That ’90s Show,” another Netflix series that revisits the world of “That ’70s Show” through the perspective of the main characters’ children.

With such a talented team behind it, the “A Different World” sequel promises to bring nostalgia and fresh stories to a new generation of viewers.
