Judge Mathis, the beloved TV personality known for dishing out courtroom wisdom, is facing a legal battle involving some shocking allegations.
Ricardo Acosta, a former employee of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), has filed a lawsuit accusing the judge of making violent threats during a heated driveway confrontation in July 2023.
The Allegations Against Judge Mathis
According to court documents, Acosta claims he was operating a dump truck near Judge Mathis’ Los Angeles home when the judge allegedly erupted in anger over the truck blocking his driveway.
Acosta says Mathis exited his garage and yelled, “Move the f**king truck out of the way!”
The situation reportedly escalated when Acosta asked the judge to move to a safer position.
Acosta alleges Mathis responded by saying, “I don’t give a f**k… Run me over and see what happens.”
The lawsuit further claims Judge Mathis went into his home, returned with a firearm, and threatened, “I will bust a cap…you wanna f**k with me.”
Acosta asserts Mathis then got back into his vehicle and drove away but repeated his threats before leaving.
Acosta is now suing for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress, seeking damages.
The Backstory & Legal Defense
This lawsuit follows a previous complaint Acosta reportedly filed with the LAPD shortly after the alleged incident.
At the time, law enforcement sources confirmed an LADWP employee had accused Mathis of threatening workers with a gun.
Judge Mathis’ attorney, Anahita Sedaghatfar, vehemently denies the allegations.
In a statement to TMZ, she called the claims “a last-ditch attempt” by Acosta to extort money from Mathis, accusing him of fabricating events.
Sedaghatfar also noted that LAPD did not investigate Acosta’s complaint, which she argues highlights its lack of credibility.
She emphasized that Judge Mathis acted out of concern for his and his family’s safety and accused Acosta of engaging in illegal conduct and defamation.
Sedaghatfar assured that if the case proceeds, they will not only defend against the claims but also file counterclaims.
Judge Mathis’ Response? Unbothered.
While the legal drama unfolds, Judge Mathis appears unfazed.
On Instagram, he shared a heartwarming photo of himself enjoying cake baked by his granddaughters.
