Talk about Ride or Die Dummies. Two Michigan men are facing serious felony charges after allegedly attempting one of the most unserious schemes imaginable: switching places to deceive a court-ordered paternity test.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Mark McCracken, 34, and Derek Harrison, 36, were arraigned earlier this month on charges of tampering with evidence after prosecutors say they tried to undermine a DNA test tied to a paternity case.
The alleged plan involved Harrison impersonating McCracken during the test.
Prosecutors say Harrison signed in at the Macomb County Administration Building on September 12 using McCracken’s name and then submitted a DNA sample while falsely claiming to be him.
Yes. That is allegedly how this went down.
Authorities have not revealed how the attempted DNA swap was discovered, nor have they shared why the paternity test was ordered in the first place.
What is clear is that the switch-up did not stick.
Harrison was arraigned on December 1, while McCracken followed on December 10.
Both men are charged with tampering with evidence, a four-year felony under Michigan law.
It gets even more serious.
Prosecutors say both men have habitual offender fourth offense notices on their records, which means they could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido did not mince words when addressing the case, calling the allegations “truly outrageous” and emphasizing that the county takes child support matters very seriously.
As of now, both Harrison and McCracken remain in custody at the Macomb County Jail.
Between court-ordered DNA, sign-in sheets, and the science behind genetic testing, this alleged plan was never going to end well.
Still, the audacity alone has people shaking their heads and clutching their popcorn.
God bless the baby mama who is waiting for the results. Clearly, issa lose/lose situation!
