What Happened
The Milton Police Department announced on Friday, February 6, that a body believed to be Nathan Smith was recovered from a pond in Mayfield Park near his Milton home.
Authorities said Smith left his residence under unusual circumstances and ran out of his home without his phone.
He was last seen around 6 a.m. on February 3 near Baldwin Drive and Mayfield Road.
After an extensive search, divers with the Cherokee County Fire Department located a body at approximately 11:53 a.m. on February 6.
Official identification and the cause and manner of death are pending confirmation from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police stated there is currently no indication of foul play, but the investigation remains active.
Lil Jon’s Statement
Lil Jon, born Jonathan Smith, shared a deeply emotional statement following the news.
“I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith. His mother and I are devastated,” he said.
He described Nathan as kind, caring, and warmhearted, adding that his son loved his family and friends fully.
Lil Jon also shared that Nathan was a talented music producer, artist, engineer, and an NYU graduate.
“We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him,” he said, noting that the family finds comfort in knowing they expressed their love to him.
Lil Jon also thanked the many law enforcement agencies, search teams, and volunteers who helped in the search efforts.
