The end of an era has arrived. LeBron James is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons.

On the first day of NBA free agency, the future Hall of Famer informed the franchise that he plans to continue his NBA career elsewhere for the 2026-27 season.

His agent, Rich Paul, confirmed the news to ESPN.

Senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported that James informed the Lakers they could move on because he intends to play for another team next season.

Charania also noted that James notified Lakers president Rob Pelinka before free agency began out of respect for the organization and to give the team time to handle its offseason plans.

The End Of A Lakers Era

James joined the Lakers in 2018 and spent eight seasons with the franchise, leading the team to an NBA championship during the 2020 season inside the NBA’s COVID-19 bubble.

As he enters what could be the final chapter of his career, James has made it clear that winning another championship remains a priority.

Where Will LeBron James Play Next?

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly among the teams expected to pursue James.

The Warriors are also rumored to have interest in reuniting him with his former Lakers teammate and close friend, Anthony Davis.

Wherever James signs, his decision will be one of the biggest stories of the NBA offseason.
