Legendary comedian Paul Mooney has reportedly passed away after suffering a heart attack early Wednesday (May 19) morning.
He was 79.
Roland Martin broke the news via social media after receiving a call from one of Paul’s relatives.
In a post on his Instagram page, Roland wrote:
BREAKING NEWS: Comedic legend Paul Mooney has passed away. His cousin, Rudy Ealy, just called me from Paul’s phone and said he passed away two hours ago after suffering a heart attack at his home in Oakland. He was 79. Rudy Ealy told me that Paul had been suffering with dementia for some time and had been living with him. Rudy said Oakland paramedics valiantly tried to save him after suffering a heart attack this AM. We will pay tribute to him tonight on #RolandMartinUnfiltered at 6 pm EST

The NY Daily News reports Paul’s publicist has confirmed his passing.
Paul Mooney was truly one of a kind and his shoot from the hip style of comedy will be missed.
My sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and all who loved him.
