Grammy-Nominated R&B Singer Jesse Powell Passes Away At 51

It’s with a heavy heart that I report that R&B singer Jesse Powell transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 13.

He was 51.

Who Is Jesse Powell?

Jesse Powell is an American singer and songwriter hailing from Gary, Indiana. 

The Grammy-nominated artist is best known for his beautiful 1996 R&B hit single, “You,” which was featured on his self-titled debut album. 

The single peaked at no. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 2 on the R&B charts. 

Jesse is also the older brother of R&B singers Trina Powell and Tamara Powell, better known as Trina & Tamara.

The Powell Family Releases A Statement

Tamara Powell took to social media to announce the passing of her beloved brother with a statement from the Powell family.

The statement, posted on Tamara’s official Instagram page reads:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.

He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home. 

The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy.

Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. 

We want you all to know that you meant the world to him.
