Chicago rapper G Herbo has agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud and identity theft in an effort to avoid a 20-year jail sentence.
Identity Theft & Wire Fraud
G Herbo, whose real name is Herbert Wright, and five of his associates, including promotor Antonio Strong, are accused of using stolen identities to rack up to $1.5 million in fraudulent charges.
The crew of alleged scammers purchased private jet excursions, a trip to a villa in Jamaica, and “designer puppies,” according to the Chicago Tribune.
G Herbo was indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2020, as one of the private airline owners is based in the state.
G Herbo Lied About Antonio Strong
To add insult to injury, the charges allege that in November 2018, G Herbo lied to a U.S. federal agent regarding his relationship with Antonio Strong.
The rapper said he has never provided Antonio, who is accused of being the mastermind behind the identity theft scheme, with money or received anything of value from the promoter.
Unfortunately, phone conversations, text messages, and Instagram direct messages beg to differ.
The Plea Deal
The plea agreement, made public on Wednesday (July 19), reads:
Wright used the proceeds of these frauds to travel to various concert venues and to advance his career by posting photographs and/or videos of himself on the private jets, in the exotic cars, and at the Jamaican villa.
In addition, Wright helped Strong obtain designer puppies from a business by falsely representing to the business that Wright was the actual purchaser of the puppies and by concealing Strong’s actual identity from the business.
As part of his plea agreement, G Herbo will pay $140,000 in restitution to a number of alleged victims, including $10,458 to Woof Woof Puppies in Michigan.
The plea agreement still has to be approved by a judge.
G Herbo will formally plead guilty at a hearing this month.
The rapper faces up to 20 years in prison, but with the plea deal, he will likely get a lower sentence with a potential term of probation.
G Herbo’s Kids
Since his indictment in 2020, G Herbo welcomed two children, a son Essex Wright in 2021, and a daughter Emmy Love Wright in 2022, with Taina Williams.
The 27-year-old rapper is also a proud father to his 5-year-old son, Yosohn Wright, from his previous relationship with Ari Fletcher.
Hopefully, G Herbo’s scamming shenanigans don’t take him away from his children.
