Creed III put the paws on the competition at the box office with a $100.4 million global debut.
The film, starring Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors, Tessa Thompson, Mila Kent-Davis, Wood Harris, and Phylicia Rashad, exceeded exceptions by bringing in $58.6 million domestically across 4,007 screens.
Not only is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut the best opening for the franchise, but Creed III is also the biggest sports film opening in history.
The first Creed, directed by Ryan Coogler, debuted at $42.1 million domestically in 2015, and the Steven Caple Jr.-directed sequel garnered $56 million over the 5-day Thanksgiving weekend in 2018.
In the third installment, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life.
When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring.
The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight.
To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian – a fighter who has nothing to lose.
