Colman Domingo Brings Roar And Heart To ‘Wicked: For Good’

Colman Domingo is officially heading down the Yellow Brick Road, y’all.

The Oscar-nominated actor has been cast as the voice of the Cowardly Lion in Wicked: For Good, and I could not be more excited to see what kind of magic he brings to Oz.

The reveal came straight from the Wicked Instagram page, where Colman popped up from behind a stuffed lion before flashing that signature smile and saying, “See you in Oz!”

Talk about a purr-fect announcement.

Director Jon M. Chu already warned fans the reveal would have people talking.

“Man, wait until the red carpet when the actor who gave us the Cowardly Lion’s voice steps foot on it. It’ll be wild,” he teased.

And honestly? He’s right. Colman always delivers.

The Cowardly Lion’s Story Gets A New Twist

Colman Domingo as the Cowardly Lion in Wicked: For Good

The Cowardly Lion has been a fan-favorite ever since The Wizard of Oz first hit screens in 1939.

But in Wicked: For Good, we’re getting a deeper look at his roots.

Remember that little lion cub Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) rescued from that awful classroom scene in the first film?

Well, that cub grows up to be the Lion we know today — still wrestling with fear, guilt, and the aftermath of Elphaba’s decisions.

This time around, the story overlaps with The Wizard of Oz, so we’ll see him trekking down the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, The Tin Man, and Scarecrow.

He even makes an appearance during the “March of the Witchhunters” number.

His role might not be huge, but it’s heartfelt and you know Colman’s going to make it memorable.

What To Expect From ‘Wicked: For Good’

Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda in Wicked: For Good trailer from Universal Pictures.

Wicked: For Good picks up right where the first film left off, digging deeper into the fallout of Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship.

Erivo and Ariana Grande return as Elphaba Thropp and Glinda Upland, alongside Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James.

With Colman Domingo stepping in as the Cowardly Lion, expect a mix of heart, humor, and a touch of Broadway brilliance.

The sequel hits theaters on November 21, and from what I’ve seen so far, it’s about to be another trip to Oz we won’t forget.
