A Celebrity Cruises passenger is suing the cruise line claiming the ship’s medical staff gave her a blood transfusion from someone who had HIV.
The woman’s 7-day cruise started on December 4, 2021, and on the fifth day of the cruise, she suffered a severe medical emergency.
She said doctors diagnosed her with a gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and they told her she would need an emergency blood transfusion to survive.
According to the lawsuit, the medical staff announced over the PA system that they needed Type A – negative blood.
4 passengers volunteered to donate blood, and she got the transfusion.
Sometime later the woman says she was diagnosed with HIV, and she believed she contracted the virus from the blood transfusion she received on the ship.
In her lawsuit, she called out the Celebrity Cruises doctors for not properly screening the donated blood.
She is suing the cruise line for unspecified damages.
