Zaila Avant-Garde Becomes 1st African-American Champion Of Scripps National Spelling Bee

Zalia Avant-garde brought all of her Black Girl Magic to the Scripps National Spelling Bee to become to first African-American champion in the competition’s 96-year-history!

The 14-year-old, who is also a basketball prodigy, appeared on “CBS This Morning” to talk about her historic win and why spelling is only her “side hobby.”
