The first official portrait of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama has finally been unveiled, and it’s a stunning reflection of their journey together.
On Monday, Barack Obama shared the exciting news on social media, revealing a new portrait created by acclaimed Nigerian-born artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby.
“It was great joining Njideka Akunyili Crosby, a gifted Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based artist, to unveil our first portrait together,” Barack Obama wrote.
“This piece reflects so many chapters of Michelle and my story, and we’re thrilled that it will be on display in the Hope and Change lobby at the Obama Presidential Center starting this Juneteenth.”
The portrait marks the first time Barack and Michelle Obama have been featured together in an official commissioned portrait.
Known for her layered and deeply personal artwork, Crosby was selected to create a piece that captures both the public legacy and private bond shared by the former First Couple.
The portrait will be displayed inside the Hope and Change lobby at the Obama Presidential Center, offering visitors a new glimpse into the story of one of America’s most influential couples.
The unveiling arrives just ahead of Juneteenth, adding even more significance to the moment as supporters celebrate Black history, culture, and achievement.
While details about the artwork’s symbolism continue to emerge, one thing is clear: the portrait serves as a powerful tribute to the love, partnership, and impact Barack and Michelle Obama have had on generations around the world.
