A woman has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the 19-year-old grandson of Robert De Niro.
Sofia Haley Marks, 20, is facing a federal charge of distributing narcotics in connection to Leandro’s death on July 2.
According to his mother, Drena De Niro, Leandro died of a fentanyl overdose after buying laced pills.
The teen’s body was found in a Financial District apartment along with cocaine and prescription pills.
Sofia Haley Marks was busted by a joint Drug Enforcement Agency-NYPD task force around 5 p.m. on Thursday (July 13).
She is expected to be arraigned in Manhattan Federal Court on Friday.
Robert De Niro released the following statement after his grandson’s untimely passing, “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone.”
