I’m sad to report Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar, two actors from the Netflix series, The Chosen One, were killed in a car accident in Mexico.
Six other cast and crew members were injured in the crash.
According to local media, the accident occurred on Thursday (June 16) when the van they were riding in crashed near Mulege on the Baja California Sur peninsula.
The van reportedly flipped after running off the road in a desert area.
The crew was filming in nearby Santa Rosalia.
The Baja California Department of Culture confirmed the deaths of Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar.
A spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA released the following statement:
SAG-AFTRA has been in contact with Netflix and with the Mexican actors union ANDA about this incident and we are investigating the circumstances with local production.
On set safety is always our top priority.
We will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure that our members and others are safe in their workplace.
The Chosen One tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who learns he’s the returned Jesus Christ, destined to save humankind.
The series is based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Peter Gross.
