Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon was carjacked at gunpoint in a Philadelphia park on Wednesday afternoon.
The carjacking occurred around 2:45 p.m. EST at the FDR Park in South Philly.
Rep. Scanlon had been there attending a meeting earlier in the afternoon.
According to Philadelphia police, two armed men approached Scanlon and demanded the keys to her blue 2017 Acura MDX.
She gave up her keys and one of the men drove off with her car.
The second man hopped in a separate vehicle and followed her Acura.
Several personal and work items were also taken with the vehicle.
Lauren Cox, a spokesperson for Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon released the following statement:
She thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response, and appreciates the efforts of both the Sergeant at Arms in D.C. and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said:
I am relieved that Congresswoman Scanlon was not physically injured, and my thoughts are with her during this difficult time.
