Do you remember Snow?
He was the 23-year-old Canadian Reggae rapper, who had the Billboard Hot 100 in a chokehold with his 1992 single, “Informer!”
Let me run it back for you…
Snow’s 1993 debut album, 12 Inches of Snow, went on to sell 8 million records worldwide and his single, “Informer,” was number 1 on the Billboard charts for 7 consecutive weeks.
“Informer” was recorded twice in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling Reggae single in US history, as well as the highest-charting Reggae single in history.
Before his successful rap career, Snow, whose real name is Darrin Kenneth O’Brien, was involved in a knife fight in 1989.
He ended up spending nearly a year in jail while awaiting trial on two counts of attempted murder.
While in jail, he wrote “Informer,” which was inspired by the incident.
The charges were reduced to aggravated assault, and he was eventually acquitted.
Snow was released from jail and the rest is history.
In 2019, Snow was tapped by Daddy Yankee to hop on his Reggaeton and Dancehall joint, “Con Calma,” which contains a sample of “Informer.”
The song was hot as fish grease on the charts and the official music video has garnered over 2 BILLION views on YouTube.
The collaboration scooped 4 awards at the 2020 Lo Nuestro Awards including Song of the Year.
“Con Calma” also won 7 awards between the 2020 Billboard Music Awards and the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards including Top Latin Song.
Today, the rapper is 52-years-old, he’s happily married to Tara O’Brien, and he’s a father, a grandfather, and a dog dad.
Most recently Snow was featured on DJ Cassidy’s “Pass The Mic” featuring Dancehall and Reggae Hits.
