Ray J’s Health Update
Ray J took to Instagram on Sunday to thank fans for their prayers and support following his recent hospitalization.
“I want to thank everybody for praying for me,” Ray J said in the video. “I was in a hospital. My heart’s only beating like 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be all right.”
He added, “My health is not okay, so I thank everybody for supporting and praying for me.”
Hospitalization Details
The singer was admitted to a Las Vegas hospital on January 7 after experiencing severe pneumonia and heart pain, according to TMZ.
A source close to Ray J told the outlet he underwent X-rays and an echocardiogram, though specific results were not shared.
In a separate Instagram Live, later reposted on X, Ray J made a troubling statement about his prognosis.
He claimed doctors told him he may not live long, adding that his heart had turned “black” due to years of alcohol and drug abuse. He admitted he previously felt “invincible.”
Ray J’s Past Health Struggles
This is not Ray J’s first serious health scare.
In 2021, he was hospitalized in Miami for pneumonia.
At the time, his longtime manager David Weintraub confirmed the illness was not contagious and that Ray J did not have COVID-19, despite initially being placed in a COVID unit.
“He’s in the hospital for pneumonia, but it’s not the contagious kind,” Weintraub told PEOPLE.
Doctors kept him hospitalized for a few extra days to monitor his condition.
During that stay, Ray J required oxygen and used an inhaler to support his breathing.
Message To Fans
Through his manager, Ray J previously shared a message with PEOPLE expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support.
“I appreciate all the love and support from everybody,” he said. “Thank you for keeping me in your prayers, and I will be back up and running soon.”
