In the latest chapter of Plies’ copyright infringement lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy, his lawyer has officially entered the chat.
Walter Mosley spoke with TMZ about the lawsuit, which centers on Plies’ 2008 track, “Me & My Goons.”
Mosley provided clarity on the case after Megan’s producer, LilJuMadeDaBeat, claimed on social media that both Megan and Soulja Boy sampled Lil Wil’s Big E-produced track, “My Dougie.”
According to Mosley, although “My Dougie” was released before “Me & My Goons,” musicologists determined it was actually Plies’ song that was sampled in “Pretty Boy Swag” and “Wanna Be.”
Apparently, Plies and Soulja Boy initially had a good-faith agreement regarding the sample, but that understanding has since run its course.
The situation became even more complicated when Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla allegedly sampled “Pretty Boy Swag” for “Wanna Be.”
Mosley also clarified that the timing of the lawsuit announcement, which came the day after the 2024 presidential election, was purely coincidental and not an attack on Black women.
The “Bust It Baby” rapper wants the labels who profited off of his sample to cut the check.
Plies remains open to settling the case with all parties involved—or they can hash it out in a court of law.
Feel free to listen to all of the songs and compare them.
