M. Night Shyamalan‘s new drama-mystery-thriller, OLD, is now playing in theaters nationwide.
The film is about a family on a tropical holiday, who discovers that the secluded beach, where they are relaxing for a few hours, is somehow causing them to age rapidly reducing their entire lives into a single day.
Critics are killing this film, however, I found it to be thrilling, mind-blowing, entertaining, and thought-provoking.
M. Night Shyamalan effortlessly tapped into two things many of us struggle with: Time and Growing Old.
And if you’re someone like me, who feels like there aren’t enough hours in a day or you want longevity, but you’re not looking forward to growing old…you will be triggered by this film.
The cast gave what they needed to give, however, there were three standouts.
Nikki Amuka-Bird, who played the role of Patricia.
Patricia is a pure-hearted woman who suffers from epilepsy.
Then, there is Ken Leung, who plays the role of Jarin, a nurse, who is also Patricia’s husband.
The most intriguing character is Mid-Sized Sedan, played by Aaron Pierre.
I may go as far as to say he is the key player of the cast.
MSD is a super-rich rap star, who is the inception of the terror that is to come on the secluded beach.
My biggest gripe with OLD is that many of the moments that would have been big reveals were shared in the trailer.
I found myself waiting for certain scenes rather than being blown away by them.
While the trailer may have dampened the film…it didn’t rain it out.
Overall, I enjoyed OLD. I laughed, gasped, and became emotional at times.
Congratulations to M. Night Shyamalan on another one (in my DJ Khaled voice).
Do you plan to check out the film this weekend?
