Derek Chauvin, Former Minneapolis Police Officer Who Killed George Floyd, Has Been Arrested

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd by kneeling on his neck has been arrested.

John Harrington, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, announced that Chauvin was taken into custody by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The arrest comes on the heels of peaceful protests and riots across the country.

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said:

The investigation is ongoing.

We entrust our police officers to use certain amounts of force to do their job to protect us. They commit a criminal act if they use this force unreasonably.

Freeman also noted he anticipates charges against the other three officers involved.
