The 2023 nominations for the 65th annual Grammy Awards were announced on Tuesday and Nicki Minaj was completely snubbed.
You may recall that the Queen of the Barbs spoke out after “Super Freaky Girl,” was kicked out of the Grammy Rap category.
Despite spending eight weeks on top of Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart, the Recording Academy’s rap committee determined that the playful and pop-sounding song, which sampled Rick James’ 1981 classic, “Super Freak,” should compete for Best Pop Solo Performance instead.
While calling out the Grammys for their decision, Nicki pointed out how Drake’s singy songy smash, “Hotline Bling,” won Best Rap Song in 2017 and Best Rap Sung Song.
She went on to compare “Super Freaky Girl” to Latto’s hit single, “Big Energy,” which features a very notable sample from Mariah Carey’s 1995 Pop smash, “Fantasy.”
It didn’t take long before things went left and Nicki Minaj and Latto were font-fighting in the streets of Twitter.
Now that the dust has settled, Nicki Minaj was completely snubbed and Latto received two nominations; Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Big Energy.”
Twitter is buzzing about Nicki being snubbed and it’s a mixed bag.
Some are calling out the Grammys for their shenanigans and politics while others feel the snub is well-deserved.
Someone even launched the hashtag #NoGrammysForGranny.
