Netflix has just dropped a brand new trailer for The Piano Lesson, marking Malcolm Washington’s directorial debut.
Produced by Denzel Washington, this film is a cinematic adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play.
A deep family conflict erupts in the Charles household, centered around a cherished heirloom—a piano that threatens to tear two siblings apart.
On one side, we have a brother (John David Washington) determined to sell it and secure the family’s future.
On the other, a sister (Danielle Deadwyler) fiercely clings to it as a symbol of their heritage.
Even their uncle (Samuel L. Jackson), who tries to mediate, can’t escape the haunting presence of the past.
The Piano Lesson delves into the complexities of identity, resilience, and the legacy we leave behind, exploring how the past shapes our present and who holds the power to define it.
Malcolm Washington not only directs but also co-writes this powerful narrative in his feature debut.
With Oscar-nominated producers Denzel Washington and Todd Black at the helm, the film boasts an exceptional cast including Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu, Danielle Deadwyler, and Corey Hawkins.
The Piano Lesson will debut in select theaters in November before streaming on Netflix starting November 22.
