DC fans finally have their first real look at “Lanterns,” and I’m not gonna lie… this series already feels very different from the typical superhero rollout.
HBO Max dropped the official teaser for the upcoming DC Studios drama, giving viewers their first glimpse of Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.
The teaser also reveals the first look at Laura Linney, and her appearance alone is already raising questions about what kind of mystery this series is about to unfold.
The new drama premieres Sunday, August 16, on HBO and HBO Max.

Instead of leaning heavily into massive CGI battles and nonstop action, the teaser feels tense, atmospheric, and surprisingly serious.
It almost plays more like an HBO crime drama than a traditional comic book series, which could end up working in a major way.
Aaron Pierre already looks incredibly commanding as John Stewart, while Kyle Chandler brings a more weathered and seasoned energy to Hal Jordan.
And then there’s Laura Linney.
The teaser barely gives us much, but her presence instantly adds another layer of intrigue to the series.
