Netflix has set an April 12, 2024, premiere date for the animated reboot, directed by Cree Summer.
Renowned Hip Hop producer 9th Wonder takes the reins as Executive Music Producer and Music Supervisor for the series, ensuring the soundtrack delivers nothing but the finest beats!
About Netflix’s Animated ‘Good Times’ Reboot
The animated “Good Times” series finds the fourth generation of the Evans family living in apartment 17C of the last remaining housing projects in Chicago.
It turns out the more things change the more they stay the same and keeping your head above water is as challenging as ever.
The only thing tougher than life for this family is love, and there’s more than enough to go around.
Speaking with Netflix, Ranada Shepard shared why they opted to created an animated reboot of “Good Times” instead of a live-action reboot.
We can play in this world a little bit more.
There were cool points in the original series, in the sense that Florida [played by Esther Rolle] would always look to the heavens.
She would talk to God about her family, she would talk to God about her problems, and we had an opportunity to actually go up to heaven and see what God thought about the request.
The other thing is, look, you don’t have the original cast, right?
We can’t go back into the ’70s.
So how cool is it that through animation you can re-create that apartment — 17C — and show that this family, three generations later, still lives in 17C?

The original “Good Times” was a spinoff of Norman Lear’s “Maude,” which was a spinoff of “All in the Family.”
The series, created by Mike Evans and Eric Monte was television’s first sitcom featuring an African American two-parent family.
Deadline exclusively reported the late Norman Lear will guest star in the first episode of the animated reboot.

Yeah I was involved in the very beginning but had to leave the show due to creative differences. So I haven’t seen one script or episode of this version of the show.
