Apple TV+ has released a brand new trailer for the slave film, Emancipation, starring Will Smith.
The Antoine Fuqua-directed film follows a runaway slave who forges through the swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey to escape plantation owners that nearly killed him.
The film is slated to open in theaters on December 2 and it will premiere on Apple TV+ on December 9.
You may recall, Apple announced Emancipation would be delayed until 2023 following the fallout from Will slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.
But, now that the dust has settled, it’s business as usual.
In a post on his Instagram page, Will Smith wrote, “This was the hardest movie I’ve ever made. Blood, Sweat & Tears… LITERALLY! Shoutout to Apple who doubled (and tripled) down on their commitment to deliver this epic story to the world.”
This past weekend, Will attended the Congressional Black Caucus’ 51st Conference and shared this about the film:
Throughout my career, I’ve turned down many films that were set in slavery.
I never wanted to show us like that and then this picture came along.
This is not a film about slavery. This is a film about freedom.
This is a film about resilience. This is a film about faith.

I don’t want another slave movie either, but I will be paying for the movie to support it.
