Drakeo The Ruler was fatally stabbed on Saturday night (December 18) during the Once Upon A Time music festival in Los Angeles.
The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell, was slated to perform on the bill that included Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and 50 Cent.
Drakeo was backstage when an altercation broke out among several people and he was reportedly stabbed in the neck.
Margaret Stewart, public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed paramedics responded to a report of a stabbing at in Exposition Park around 8:40 p.m.
One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The festival was shut down following the stabbing.
Live Nation released the following statement:
There was an altercation in the roadway backstage. Out of respect for those involved and in coordination with local authorities, artists and organizers decided not to move forward with remaining sets so the festival was ended an hour early.
TMZ reports Drakeo The Ruler died from his injuries.
