Update: Universal and MGM have set an August 27, 2021 release date for the highly anticipated film, Candyman.
Words cannot express how annoyed I am by this new release date. I totally understand pushing the film back…but a 14-month delay is ridiculous.
You may recall the film was originally slated to be released in June of this year.
I will tell you one thing…with all of this waiting…this film better be amazing.
Original Post:
Welp! You can look in the mirror and say Candyman as many times as you want – he ain’t showing up in 2020.
Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta‘s reimagining of the classic 1992 film that was slated to arrive in October has been pushed back to 2021.
Via Variety:
“Candyman” was originally scheduled to debut in June, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it has been delayed numerous times. The movie has been described as a “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 slasher movie directed by Bernard Rose. Based on the ghastly urban legend, the film centers on a struggling artist (portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) who begins to lose his sanity after discovering the story of Candyman.
As the tale goes, if someone says his name to a mirror five times, Candyman will appear and kill whoever summoned him.
Although the original Candyman scared the shizznit out of me and gave me nightmares for weeks, I was looking forward to checking out this film next month.
UGH.
