Bob Odenkirk’s ‘Normal’ Is Anything But—And Marc Provissiero Breaks Down The Mayhem

Marc Provissiero discusses producing “Normal” and working with Bob Odenkirk on the action thriller film

I sat down with producer Marc Provissiero to talk about Normal, and let me tell you… the title is doing a whole lot of misleading.

This film is already in theaters, and if you’re looking for action with personality, you might want to go ahead and grab that ticket.

From the minds behind John Wick and Nobody, this one delivers chaos, comedy, and just enough heart to keep you locked in.

What To Know About Normal

  • Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler
  • Now Playing In Theaters
  • Genre: Action, Thriller, Dark Comedy

A Small Town With Big Secrets

On paper, Normal is supposed to be a quiet Midwestern town.

Sheriff Ulysses, played by Bob Odenkirk, is there to reset and regroup.

That plan? Immediately ruined.

A botched bank robbery exposes a town full of secrets, questionable characters, and chaos that escalates fast.

Marc Provissiero told me the title was always meant to be ironic:

“Bob got a thought it would be funny for a town to be named Normal… because there is a town named Normal… for a town that clearly is anything but normal.”

The Real-Life Moment That Sparked Nobody

One of the most interesting parts of our conversation was learning how real life shaped their storytelling.

Marc shared that Nobody came from a deeply personal moment in Bob Odenkirk’s life:

“They had a home invasion in their home. Everyone was safe, but his daughter was nine, his son was eleven… and so it was like the first act of that movie, ‘Nobody,’ was real.”

That experience didn’t just inspire a scene.

It sparked a bigger conversation that carried into their work:

“For months we would talk about what it would mean… what it must mean to be a man… when he’s faced with the threat to his family.”

And honestly, you can feel that same emotional foundation in Normal.

Even when things get wild, it never loses that human core.

Why Bob Odenkirk Works As An Action Hero

I had to point this out because it’s something that really stands out.

Bob Odenkirk doesn’t feel like your typical action hero. He feels real.

Marc explained their approach like this:

“We’re not interested in the action space needing one more entry of the guy who just flips a switch… and kills everybody… You don’t know if he’s gonna make it. You feel the pain that he’s going through.”

That’s exactly why it works.

He’s relatable. He’s believable. And that makes every moment hit harder.

What To Expect From Normal

When I asked Marc what he wants audiences to take away, he kept it simple:

“First of all, we want people to have fun… this is a thriller that has a little bit of a horror element… but it is absolutely fun.”

And that’s exactly what you get.

This film blends action, humor, and unpredictability in a way that keeps you locked in the entire time.

My Take After Watching

I had a really good time with this one.

It’s entertaining, it’s chaotic in the best way, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously while still giving you something to connect to.

That balance? Not easy to pull off. But they did that.

Will You Be Watching Normal?

Normal is now playing in theaters, so if you’re in the mood for something fun, fast-paced, and a little unhinged… this might be your next watch.
