Who Plays Bob Marley In ‘One Love?’
Kingsley Ben-Adir plays the role of Bob Marley in the One Love movie.
The 37-year-old British actor, who has portrayed the likes of Malcolm X (One Night In Miami) and Barack Obama (The Comey Rule), admitted he didn’t initially think he could play the role of the reggae icon.
There were a lot of reservations. I was completely convinced that there’s no point in auditioning for this. I can’t sing. I can’t dance.
My question was if they’d been on a worldwide search and they said yes. And I said maybe they should go on another one.
But, the role kept coming back to him.
Kingsley learned to sing and play the guitar for the role and he even performed all of the songs with his own singing voice while filming Bob Marley: One Love.
He confessed, “I butchered a lot of people’s ears for many days.”
What probably proved to be most challenging for Kingsley Ben-Adir was learning Bob Marley’s mannerisms.
Bob’s not someone you can choreograph or copy. His singing and dancing is from an internal experience, so you really have to find your own version of that for yourself.
The more I dug into Bob the more I realized that music was really everything to him. It really saved him, and he separated himself from other artists around that time.

The film features a host of incredibly talented actors including Kingsley Ben-Adir, Lashana Lynch, James Norton, Tosin Cole, Umi Myers, Anthony Welsh, Nia Ashi, Aston Barrett Jr., Anna-Sharé Blake, Gawaine “J-Summa” Campbell, and Naomi Cowan.
Additional cast members include Alexx A-Game, Michael Gandolfini, Quan-Dajai Henriques, David Kerr, Hector Roots Lewis, Abijah “Naki Wailer” Livingston, Nadine Marshall, Sheldon Shepherd, Andrae Simpson, and Stefan A.D Wade.
