About ‘Fancy Dance’:
The story revolves around Jax (played by Lily Gladstone), who takes care of her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma after her sister disappears.
Jax is determined to find her missing sister while also preparing Roki for an upcoming powwow.
To avoid losing custody to Roki’s grandfather Frank (Shea Whigham), Jax and Roki embark on a journey, traveling through the backcountry to locate Roki’s mother before the powwow begins.
What starts as a search becomes a profound exploration of Indigenous women navigating a colonized world and struggling within a flawed justice system.
