It’s with a heavy heart that I report comedian and actor Anthony ‘AJ’ Johnson has passed away.
A Compton, California native, the stand-up comedian got his big break in 1990 when he landed the role of “E.Z.E.” in the Kid ‘n Play classic House Party.
But, he is best known for his role as “Ezal” in the iconic 1995 film, Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.
According to a relative, Anthony was found unconscious in a Los Angeles store earlier this month.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Anthony was 55. (Wiki says he was 56.)
His cause of death is still unknown at this time.
His rep, LyNea Bell, also confirmed his passing saying, “We lost an icon. He will be greatly missed.”
A GoFundMe has been launched with a fundraising goal of $20,000 to cover the final arrangements for Anthony ‘AJ’ Johnson.
It reads:
One of our favorite and beloved comedians, A.J. Johnson has gone to be with the Lord. Please help us by donating for his homegoing service and ongoing support for his children and grandchildren.
We want to honor him the way he deserves.
AJ leaves his wife, Lexis, three children, a brother Edward “Peanut’ Smith, a sister Sheila, and his lifetime manager and friend, Mike D, to cherish his memory.
My sincerest prayers and condolences to the Johnson family and all who knew and loved AJ.
