“Dad Stop Embarrassing Me,” the new comedy series from Jamie Foxx, is now streaming on Netflix.
The series follows Brian Dixon (Jamie), a successful business owner and bachelor, who just became a full-time father to his teenage daughter Sasha (Kyla-Drew).
Determined to be the best father he can be, Brian’s going to need all the help he can get from his dad (David Alan Grier) and sister (Porscha Coleman) — and Sasha’s going to need all the help she can get learning how to deal with her new, lovingly chaotic family.
I absolutely enjoyed the series and below you will find 5 reasons why I think you will too!
The Series Is Inspired By Jamie’s Real-Life Relationship With His Daughter
Because the series is inspired by Jamie’s real-life relationship with his eldest daughter, Corinne Foxx, who serves as an executive producer on the project, it has a lot of heart and feels like it was handled with love and care.
Kyla-Drew also does a wonderful job playing Jamie’s on-screen daughter, Sasha.
She’s sassy, fun-loving, vulnerable, and such a cutie.
Jamie Foxx Is Back On His Funny Ish
It feels so good to see Jamie back to his first love – comedy – and he hasn’t missed a step.
The Oscar-winning actor is back in his funny bag and he’s delivering laugh out loud moments throughout the entire series.
He introduces various characters to the series including Reverend Sweet Tea and Cadillac Calvin, who take the shenanigans to the next level.
While there is no doubting Jamie Foxx’s ability to be funny, I have to 100 percent honest with you and let you know the funny can slip into corny from time to time, but it’s not bad enough to ruin the fun.
David Alan Grier Is The Secret Sauce
David Alan Grier plays the role of Brian Dixon’s father in “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me” and he is the gift that keeps on giving in this series!
David is a different kind of beast. He owns every scene he has! He’s the cherry on top, he’s the icing on the cake, and he’s the A-1 sauce on the steak!
As someone who loved “In Living Color,” it is truly a treat to see Jamie and David making magic on screen together again after nearly 20 years. Their chemistry is undeniable.
Porsha Coleman Is The Auntie We All Want & Need
Porsha Coleman as “Chelsea” is the auntie we all want and need in our lives!
She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she’s stylish, she doesn’t take any mess and she shoots straight from the hip.
Chelsea provides Sasha with the understanding and womanly advice she can’t get from her father.
The Series Is Hip, Smart, & Timely
“Dad Stop Embarrassing Me” is a show the entire family will love.
It’s very current and seamlessly integrates all of the latest trends from social media to jeggins.
But, the show also addresses real parenting challenges and social issues when raising young people who are going through growing pains and trying to figure things out.
Black Fathers Matter
What I absolutely love most about “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me” is the depiction of not one, but two loving Black fathers, from two different generations, who are working together to raise and love a young queen.
