The Whitney Houston Estate is “disappointed” by a very insensitive joke comedian Jerrod Carmichael made while hosting the Golden Globes on Tuesday night.
After coming back from a commercial break, Jerrod said with a straight face:
Alright, you guys we are back.
We are um pressed for time, but they wanted me to shout out the venue that we’re in.
So, we are here, live, from the hotel that killed Whitney Houston, the Beverly Hilton.
Ah, you guys, so ah that’s very exciting…

The joke was referencing the fact that Whitney died in her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton in February 2012.
Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, long-time manager, and sole executor of the estate, said through a rep:
The Whitney Houston Estate is disappointed in the joke, and felt it was in poor taste
It is unknown if anyone at NBC knew about the Whitney joke beforehand.
Many believe that Jerrod came up with the joke on the fly.
According to sources, no one connected to Whitney was privy to the joke prior to the broadcast.
