Tyler Perry joined family, friends, and fans at Word of Faith Cathedral in Austell, Georgia, to celebrate the life of R&B icon Angie Stone.

Among those who spoke, Tyler delivered an emotional tribute that honored her legacy while calling out the struggles she faced in the music industry.

From the moment Tyler Perry stepped up to speak, you could feel the weight of his words.

He opened with gratitude, acknowledging that Angie deserved nothing less than a Queen’s farewell:

“Bishop Brown, thank you for having me here. Thank you for allowing us to, to do this, to put her to rest in fashion of the Queen, that she was.”

Tyler, who lost his own mother at 64, shared how deeply he connected to Angie’s passing, as she was just a year younger than his mom when she passed.

Speaking directly to her family, he offered a heartfelt prayer:

“But in her song, she said, ‘And time gets a little better.’ So my prayer for you is that time is kind to you.”

Tyler Perry On Angie Stone’s Heart & Hustle In The Music Industry

Tyler didn’t just know Angie as an artist—he knew her as someone who cared deeply for her fans and her craft.

He reminisced about the time she invited him on stage at the Civic Center when she performed her anthem, “Brotha,” and recalled a story from Taraji P. Henson about how Angie once sang to her in a club after a promoter refused to pay her.

“That’s the heart of a person. That’s the soul of a person who cared about her fans, who cared about getting paid.”

But Tyler didn’t hold back when addressing the harsh realities of the industry—the unpaid debts, the mistreatment, and the struggles Angie faced despite her legendary career.

“All of those years, all of those songs, all of that money that was owed to her—where is it? It’s wrong. It is wrong.

And I’m tired of seeing us struggle and go through things and work hard and not reap the benefits of what we were supposed to reap.”

Angie Stone’s Lyrics Were A Prophetic Message

Tyler Perry reflected on one of Angie’s most iconic songs, No More Rain (In This Cloud), explaining that she had unknowingly prophesied her own eulogy.

“She says, ‘My sunshine has come, and I’m all cried out. There’s no more rain in this cloud.’”

Using his background as a pilot, he compared clouds to human emotions—how they hold onto pain until it has to be released, just like tears.

Tyler Perry’s Final Words For Angie Stone

Before stepping away from the podium, Tyler left the crowd with a powerful reminder for anyone who has ever felt unappreciated, overlooked, or drained from constantly giving to others:

“If you are like her and like me, who get tired of helping people and watch ’em dog you out…

If you are like her and like me, I’m gonna tell you this: Don’t stop doing good. Don’t stop being kind. Be not weary in your well-doing, for in due season, you will reap a harvest of blessings.”

Then, he closed with one last message for Angie:

“God bless you, family. God bless you, Angie. My heart, my soul is with you. I’m so glad that there’s no more rain in your cloud.”
