Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth is known for doing great work in his community and abroad, and the bond he established with 82-year-old Martha Menefield is special.

Martha was arrested on November 27, 2022, in Valley, Alabama, and charged with a misdemeanor offense of “failure to pay solid waste fees.”

Reportedly, Martha had missed the months of June, July, and August.

Martha’s arrest was very hard to watch.

The officer came to her home with an arrest warrant. She told the officer that her daughter takes care of the trash bill for her, but the officer said her daughter had not been doing it, so she would have to come with him.

She asked the officer what she would have to pay, and he told her it would be $285.00 to get out at the PD (Police Department), and if she didn’t have that he would have to take her to the county jail.

Martha was shocked by his response, and while she looked over the warrant, appeared to do some quick math in her head, and tried to make a call on her cell phone, the officer became impatient and placed her in handcuffs.

She told him, “You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Arresting an 82-year-old person.”

The arresting officer responded, “I am so sorry, but the law is the law Ms. Menefield.”

According to city officials, the arrest came after several attempts to collect the  bill and a history of suspended service.

Court records show another arrest in 2006 for not paying a $206.54 trash bill, but the case was dismissed “upon compliance.”

According to Police Chief Mark Reynolds, officers were required to arrest Ms. Menefield after a magistrate signed the warrant.

Chief Reynolds also stated, Ms. Menefield “was treated respectfully by our officers in the performance of their duties and was released on a bond as prescribed by the violation.”

The arrest drew outrage on social media as criminalizing debt.

Among those outraged was rapper Trae Tha Truth, and he decided to put some action behind his emotions.

He went to Ms. Menefield’s home in Alabama, and established a friendship with her.

While visiting, he noticed her living quarters could use some upgrades.

So, he teamed up with BEL Furniture in Valley, Alabama, and blessed Ms. Menefield with a $15K home makeover, fully refurnishing her living room, dining room, and bedroom.

Trae is still working on the challenge of providing central heat and air for the home, and he’s looking for a team to fix the foundation of the home to prevent flooding.

He’s also working on getting Ms. Menefield a car.

Ms. Menefield says she appreciates everything that Trae has done, and even though she knows the Lord sent him, she has no idea where he came from.
