Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles is a comedian, actor, and nationally-syndicated radio personality, and he has now added facilitator of Black Love to his resume as host of “Ready To Love.”
“Ready To Love” is OWN’s hit reality dating series from Will Packer that explores the interactions of grown and sexy Black men and women who are seeking authentic connections and lasting love.
Tommy Miles has served as host and a mentor to the singles of all seven seasons of the show.
As “Ready To Love” approaches its 100th episode, Tommy shared his excitement about the forthcoming milestone.
You take on a job…you take on a responsibility and you say, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do the best that I can.’ And every day you just grind and grind and do what you’re supposed to do.
But I’ve never, never would’ve thought…Oh my God, 100?! 100?! Come on!
When I was a kid used to be like, ‘Okay, Good Times got 100. The Jeffersons got 100. That’s a lot!’
To be in this day and time is still to be able to be in that number with them with so many people who have accomplished that…that 100, man…for me…for my main man, Will Packer.
This is amazing and I have to take my hat off…I can’t do it by myself. It takes the crew, it takes the producers, it takes everybody to make this happen.
We all did this together.
Tommy also shared how hosting the show and mentoring the singles has personally impacted him.
I think I’ve grown as a person I think I’ve grown, even as a host of guiding and trying to give somebody to put the best information that’s going to help them out.
It’s just been putting more thought into it saying, ‘You know what? In order to help somebody I got to be open. I got a let them know what I definitely think. I don’t want to hurt you, but I want to educate you at the same time and there’s gotta be a way that I can gracefully do that without making you shut down.’
And that’s what I try not to do. Because if anybody comes in closed up, it’s not gonna help. I got to get everybody to open up and show me who you are. Be vulnerable and let me get you to where you are trying to go.
I’m your Love Doctor, your Cupid, so let me get you there.
And it just feels good to be able to have that particular skill set that I can actually get someone to where they’re trying to go and in and you get there in a classy way and that’s the part that that means a lot to me is getting there classy.
Over the course of seven seasons, we’ve seen “Ready To Love” feature singles in Atlanta, Houston, D.C., and Miami.
Tommy revealed he wouldn’t mind exploring singles in New York (because the city has so much to offer), Chicago (but not during the winter months), and Los Angeles (although he has concerns about potentially casting actors).
In addition to a successful career in comedy, radio, and TV hosting, Tommy Miles is set to star in the forthcoming film, Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story, which premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, April 8 at 8/7c.
Be clear. When it comes to acting Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles is not new to this…he’s true to this.
People don’t know where I come from and that’s what’s amazing to me is that they like, ‘No…he supposed to be radio. No…he supposed to be standup.’
And they have no earthly idea that theater is what I studied in college.
So all through junior high and high school and college, I’m just straight thespian. It wasn’t until later that I picked up stand-up.
It wasn’t until later I got on the radio. I studied with the Royal Shakespeare Company of London. They have no idea.
