Shanquella Robinson’s Family Files $25K Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against ‘Cabo Six’

Shanquella Robinson family filing civil lawsuit against her 6 friends

In a heart-wrenching development that has captured national attention, the family of Shanquella Robinson has taken a bold step forward in their relentless pursuit of justice.

Two years after the mysterious death of the 25-year-old Charlotte native during what should have been a carefree vacation in Mexico, her family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the group now infamously known as the “Cabo Six.”

Who Was Shanquella Robinson & What Happened In Cabo?

At just 25 years old, Shanquella Robinson was a vibrant Black woman from Charlotte, North Carolina, whose life was tragically cut short during what should have been a fun-filled vacation with people she considered friends.

What began as a vacation to San Jose Del Cabo in October 2022 ended in circumstances that continue to raise disturbing questions.

Initially, Robinson’s travel companions claimed she died from alcohol poisoning.

However, the official Mexican autopsy report told a dramatically different story – listing a “severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation” as the cause of death, with a mere 15-minute window between injury and death.

Shanquella’s Mother’s Unwavering Fight For Truth

“We need justice for Shanquella Robinson,” declared Sallamondra Robinson, Shanquella’s mother, during an emotional press conference on Tuesday.

“It has been two years, and there’s no reason that they have not been arrested yet.”

Her words echo the frustration shared by supporters nationwide who have followed this tragic case since 2022.

The Viral Video That Shocked The Nation

The case gained widespread attention after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, showing what appeared to be one of the “Cabo Six” physically attacking a naked Robinson while others recorded the incident.

This footage sparked outrage and calls for immediate justice across social media platforms.

The newly filed lawsuit in Mecklenburg County Superior Court targets multiple parties:

  • The “Cabo Six” – Robinson’s travel companions
  • The U.S. State Department
  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation

The complaint alleges battery, negligence, conspiracy, and emotional distress, seeking damages exceeding $25,000.

It also challenges federal agencies’ handling of the investigation, particularly the FBI’s decision not to file charges citing insufficient evidence.

Two Nations, One Quest For Justice For Shanquella Robinson

While U.S. federal prosecutors declined to pursue charges, Mexican authorities have taken a different approach.

They’re investigating the case as a femicide – a gender-based crime – and have issued an arrest warrant.

The Attorney General’s Office of Baja California Sur confirms the investigation remains active, stating they’ve completed necessary procedures with U.S. authorities for potential extradition.

The Path Forward

Family attorney Sue-Ann Robinson (no relation) emphasized during the press conference, “We are here today, not only to honor Shanquella Robinson and her family but to call for action.”

The family’s legal team continues to push for transparency, including challenging the FBI’s withholding of investigation records requested through FOIA.

A Community Awaits Answers

As this case enters its third year, the Robinson family’s fight for justice highlights broader issues of accountability in international cases and the complexities of cross-border investigations.

The Attorney General’s Office of Baja California Sur maintains that “until there is a final sentence, the investigation cannot be closed,” offering a glimmer of hope to those seeking justice for Shanquella Robinson.

For now, Sallamondra Robinson and her supporters continue their unwavering pursuit of truth and accountability, ensuring that Shanquella’s story remains in the public consciousness until justice is served.

  1. My 27 year old son, Taylor Kristofer Meyer, was attacked, robbed, and stabbed to death in the resort town of Playa del Carmen, Mexico on 11-09-18 while vacationing there with 13 of his friends celebrating one of his friends 30th birthday. We believe Taylor was kidnapped, taken to an ATM and forced to give up his PIN number, and then killed for his wallet, watch, IPhone, and shoes.

I knew his murder would never be solved because of the corruption with the police and cartel in the area. I too filed a FOI request with the Department of State requesting information on how the Department of State could rate Mexico as a “2” in their safety rating which was the same as Germany, Italy, France, and Antarctica. Mexico’s known murder rate is approximately 5 per hour and it is consistently one of the most dangerous countries in the world. More Americans are murdered in Mexico each year than in all other countries on the planet combined!

I wish you luck on solving your daughter’s murder. Mexico is a failed state with a corrupt government run by warring tribalistic cartels. AMERICANS SHOULD NOT GO THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. It is unsafe everywhere!

    • Kris, I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your son and the challenges you’re facing in getting the justice you both deserve. My love and prayers go out to you and your family.
