Paramount+ has exciting news for fans of gripping espionage thrillers as it announces the renewal of the original drama series “Lioness” for a highly anticipated second season.
The series, previously titled “Special Ops: Lioness,” is created by Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan and has garnered significant attention for its star-studded cast and record-breaking viewership.

The returning cast includes series lead and executive producer Zoe Saldaña, along with Laysla De Oliveira, Emmy nominee Michael Kelly, Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, and executive producer Nicole Kidman.
Notably, Morgan Freeman will join the cast as a series regular in the upcoming season.
The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios exclusively for Paramount+.
In its first season, “Lioness” achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the most-watched worldwide series premiere on Paramount+ on launch day, attracting nearly six million total viewers in its first week across Paramount+ globally and through a linear preview on the Paramount Network.
Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of Programming at Paramount+, expressed excitement about the audience’s enthusiastic support for “Lioness” and praised the powerhouse performances from Saldaña, De Oliveira, and Kidman.
He emphasized the anticipation for more heart-stopping suspense and action in the second season, crafted by Taylor Sheridan and the talented team behind the series.
Chris McCarthy, Office of the CEO at Paramount Global and President & CEO of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the series’ global appeal and its captivating storytelling and performances. He emphasized the promise of another riveting and adrenaline-fueled journey in Season 2.
“LIONESS” draws inspiration from an actual U.S. Military program and follows the life of Joe (played by Zoe Saldaña) as she navigates the complexities of her personal and professional life as a key figure in the CIA’s operations against terrorism.
The series boasts a talented ensemble cast including Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, and Hannah Love Lanier.
The series is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox.
